The Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration are calling out five edible cannabis sellers who are using packaging that mimics foods popular with children. The companies were ordered to immediately stop marketing edible Delta-8 THC products that imitate foods with advertising or packaging likely to appeal to young children. The action is part of the FTC’s ongoing monitoring of health-related advertising claims. The FTC shared some examples to show how easy it is for a child to mistake cannabis edibles for a kid-friendly snack and accidentally ingest THC in very high doses. Edible cannabis — like cereal, gummies, cookies, candies, and chips — have cannabis that’s derived from marijuana or hemp. Some of these foods have Delta-8 THC, which is a part of cannabis that causes psychoactive and intoxicating effects. After accidentally eating edibles with THC, many children have gotten sick and even been hospitalized. J-Man is an outspoken advocate for the marijuana industry and the host of a TV show and podcast called Weed & Whiskey

Neil Katz - Sick Behavior

Imagine you wake up one morning with a scratchy throat and a slight fever. You have an important meeting at work that you’ve been preparing for weeks. Do you call in sick, potentially disappointing your colleagues and jeopardizing your professional reputation? Or do you pop a few painkillers, put on a brave face, and hope for the best? According to recent research, many of us would choose the latter option, even if our symptoms were more severe or if we believed we might be contagious. In a world still reeling from a global pandemic, the study uncovers a surprising trend: people are still choosing to hide their illnesses from others, despite the fact that doing so could put others at risk. This phenomenon, known as “disease concealment,” is more common than you might think and has far-reaching implications for public health and social behavior. Perhaps most stunning is the revelation that people are more likely to conceal their illnesses when their symptoms are more severe and when the risk of transmission to others is higher. This counterintuitive finding challenges our assumptions about human behavior during times of illness and raises important questions about the factors that drive us to keep our health status a secret. The research, conducted at the University of Michigan, found that a staggering 75% of the 4,110 participants across several studies reported either hiding an infectious illness from others at least once or said they might do so in the future. Many participants admitted to boarding planes, going on dates, and engaging in other social interactions while secretly sick. Even more alarming, more than 61% of healthcare workers participating in the study said they had concealed an infectious illness. Neil An HR expert and the Founder & CEO of Exceptional HR Solutions

James Black - Giving Blood

During summer, blood donations drop by 20 percent. Regional director of LifeShare Lake Charles Shawn Melancon said, “The summers are always a difficult time for us; we always need donations during the summertime. The demand increases, the usage increases, but unfortunately, donations decrease. So, we need to try to get people to come out and donate. During the summertime, we are in the middle of hurricane season, so that can cause an additional layer of problems in the blood supply.” Donations during this time are crucial to ensure blood products are available to those in need. A single donation can impact up to three people, since most whole blood donations are separated into individual components: red cells, platelets, and plasma. There have been some eligibility changes recently, like in the past, some people have been found ineligible to donate blood due to spending time living in Europe during the 1980s and 1990s, but that has since been lifted. James is a Senior Public Relations Specialist with Carter BloodCare, an independent, community blood center providing transfusion resources to more than 200 medical facilities in 50-plus counties of North, Central and East Texas
