New Owners of Euphoria Chocolate the company has been purchased by Shane and Casey Meisel, who bring both personal passion and professional experience to Euphoria!s next era. Founded in 1980 by Bob Bury, Euphoria Chocolate quickly became a regional favorite, synonymous with quality, craftsmanship, and community. Generations of Oregonians have marked holidays, celebrations, and milestones with Euphoria!s signature chocolates. For new owner Shane Meisel, Euphoria!s story is deeply personal. "Growing up in Eugene, Euphoria was our family!s special treat,” said Meisel. "My mom would surprise us with chocolate hearts on Valentine!s Day or truffles for big milestone, a chocolate Santa in our stockings at Christmas. It!s a brand that!s woven into so many local memories — mine included.” A graduate of South Eugene High School and the University of Oregon, Meisel has returned to his hometown with his wife Casey, a Hillsboro native whose career in consumer experience and sales operations at Nike and Columbia Sportswear will help guide the company!s next phase of growth. "Euphoria represents so much of what makes Eugene special — creativity, connection, and joy,” said Casey. "We!re honored to carry that forward and share these incredible chocolates with new generations of Oregonians.” Under the Meisels !#leadership, Euphoria will continue to build on its strong reputation for quality and community connection while exploring opportunities to grow and reach even more chocolate lovers across Oregon and beyond. Shane and Casey’s commitment with community partnerships has already hit the ground running, as they will invite runners and walkers to lace up for a Fun Run on February 7th, bringing back a tradition that started with the Truffle Trot. "I have been reminiscing to Casey for years about running in the winter just for a free truffle. Euphoria Chocolate can!t wait to celebrate this sweet tradition, and have some friendly fun on the course,” said Shane Meisel.

PBS to Air Acclaimed Iraq War Documentary The Last 600 Meters on the Eve of Veterans Day
Washington,D.C. – September 30, 2025 – The Last 600 Meters, a powerful 90-minute documentary chronicling two of the Iraq War’s deadliest battles, will be broadcast nationally on PBS on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 10:00 PM (check local listings), on the eve of Veterans Day.
The Last 600 Meters was produced and directed by award-winning filmmaker Michael Pack (Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words; Rickover: The Birth of Nuclear Power; Rediscovering George Washington; God and the Inner City).
“The way to honor veterans is to remember what they did in battle, serving the country,” says producer-director Michael Pack. “The Last 600 Meters tells the story of America’s biggest battles since Vietnam, Fallujah and Najaf, in Iraq in 2004, in the words and images of those who fought there: the ground truth. Americans should knowwhat happened in these battles, as we do at Gettysburg or Iwo Jima.”
Former Secretary of Defense General Mattis, who was in command for the first battle of Fallujah, put it this way: “The Last 600 Meters reveals the infantry's world as it has seldom been seen by those who have not experienced it. This film, uncaptured by politics orideology, is a classic, unique in its approach and unique in what it reveals.”
The Last 600 Meters is also an exciting action movie full of drama:murdered Black water contractors hanged from a bridge, hand to hand combat in an ancient underground cemetery, Special Forces breaking into Shiite strong man Muqtada al Sadr’s bedroom to find photos of American action movie stars, and heroic marines crossing a kill zone four times to rescue comrades in the deathtrap called Hell House.
Those on the ground, doing the fighting, also have to cope with decisions made far away in Washington. Marines attack Fallujah only to be told to pull back. US forces and Afghan commandoes are about to seize the grand mosque of Najaf until the Shiite leader Sistani comes to town. Fallujah is finally cleared of terrorists but the leaders have all fled to nearby Ramadi. In the end, a sniper in the film put it, “Foreign policy, I don’t make it, I just deliver the last 600 meters of it.”

Hundreds of flights set for Friday are already being cut at major U.S. airports as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s effort to phase in 10% reductions because of the government shutdown.
The Federal Aviation Administration is imposing the reductions to take pressure off air traffic controllers, who are federal employees and have gone without pay during the shutdown.
In addition to reduced flight traffic, the shutdown has led to more flight delays, with experts advising travelers to check flight statuses before heading to the airport, among other tips.
