PRESIDENT TRUMP ANNOUNCES TRADE DEAL WITH UK
The deal will bring the U.K. into the U.S. security blanket, Trump said. He outlined benefits for both countries and said the administration has more trade discussions in coming days. He claimed investments in the U.S. from this and future trade deals could amount to $10 trillion. Thursday's deal "opens up a tremendous market for us," Trump said of the agreement, which he said will be particularly good for U.S. agriculture and manufacturing. U.S. stock indexes were up 1% or so approaching midday. Trump said the administration has more deals in the works without providing details. "We can all play games, but it doesn't matter," because deals are what matter, Trump said, referring to coming talks with China. He said the administration is dealing now with the European Union over trade issues. He attributed the success of the U.K. deal in part to his decision to "blow up the whole system," saying doing so made reaching what he called a fair agreement easier. Trump thanked U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who spoke after Trump's introductory remarks. Starmer called the deal "a real tribute to the history" the two nations have of working together and noted that 80 years ago today Winston Churchill announced Allied victory in Europe. The deal today "is truly historic," Starmer said.

STUDY: 1 IN 3 AMERICANS CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH CARE, PRESCRIPTIONS
The inability to pay for health care has reached a new high in the United States, a new study says. More than one-third of Americans — an estimated 91 million people — say they couldn't afford to access quality health care if they needed it today, according to the latest West Health-Gallup Healthcare Affordability Index. Its latest results show that 35% of Americans could not access quality health care if they need it. Rates were even higher among Black Americans (46%) and Hispanic Americans (52%), results show. Access to health care remained stable among wealthier Americans but declined significantly among lower-income households. About two-thirds (64%) of people earning less than $24,000 said they can’t afford health care, an 11-point increase from 2023, results show. Overall, about 11% of Americans, about 29 million people, are classified as “cost desperate” – meaning they are unable to afford either health care or prescriptions.
For a rising number of Americans their only health care plan is simple: Don't get sick.

CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER CARNEY MEETS WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP AT WHITE HOUSE
Canada’s new prime minister, Mark Carney, won the job with a promise to confront the increased aggression shown by President Donald Trump. Carney has stressed that he was elected to specifically “stand up” to the U.S. president and that Canada is “in a once-in-a-lifetime crisis.”Trump has shattered a decades-old alliance by saying he wants to make Canada the 51st U.S. state and levying steep tariffs against an essential partner in the manufacturing of autos and the supply of oil, electricity and other goods. The outrage provoked by Trump enabled Carney’s Liberal Party to score a stunning comeback victory last month as the ongoing trade war and attacks on Canadian sovereignty have outraged voters.
