MILWAUKEE POLICE FACE OPPOSITION OVER FACIAL RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY
Milwaukee police announced plans to use facial recognition software company Biometrica to help solve cases. Milwaukee police are encountering significant opposition from city leaders and the public regarding their plans to use facial recognition technology to search for suspects. Eleven members of Milwaukee's Common Council have sent a letter to Police Chief Norman opposing the software, and the public voiced their concerns at a meeting with the city's Equal Rights Commission. Facial recognition technology, or FRT, involves taking an image, such as a single frame from surveillance video, and comparing it to a database of photos of known individuals to help identify the person in the video.

TRUMP SIGNS 'BIG, BEAUTIFUL' BILL IN SWEEPING VICTORY FOR SECOND TERM AGENDA, OVERCOMING DEMS AND GOP REBELS
President Donald Trump signed his $3.3 trillion "big, beautiful bill" on Friday, after the House passed the final version of the measure Thursday to ensure it arrived at the president’s desk by his self-imposed July 4 deadline. The bill includes key provisions that would permanently establish individual and business tax breaks included in Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and incorporates new tax deductions to cut duties on tips and overtime pay. "We have officially made the Trump tax cuts permanent," Trump said. "That's the largest tax cut in the history of our country. After this kicks in, our country is going to be a rocket ship economically." The measure also raises the debt limit by $5 trillion. Furthermore, the bill rescinds certain Biden-era green energy tax credits, and allocates approximately $350 billion for defense and Trump’s mass deportation initiative. The measure also institutes Medicaid reforms, including new 80-hour-a-month work requirements for Medicaid recipients, and expands work requirements for those on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. no Democrats in either chamber of Congress backed the measure. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., labeled the bill "cruel" during floor remarks that lasted hours on Thursday.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS RACE TOWARD A FINAL VOTE ON THE PRESIDENT'S TAX AND SPENDING CUTS PACKAGE
Republican leaders in the House are sprinting to vote on President Donald Trump’s tax and spending cuts package, determined to seize momentum from a hard-fought vote in the Senate while essentially daring members to defy their party’s leader and vote against it. This under a July 4th deadline demanded by Trump. “The American people gave us a clear mandate, and after four years of Democrat failure, we intend to deliver without delay,” the top four House GOP leaders said Tuesday after the bill passed the Senate 51-50, thanks to Vice President JD Vance’s tiebreaking vote. Some Republicans could defect at the Senate bill shortly after its passage, having had little time to read or absorb the changes that were made, many at the last minute to win the vote of Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski. House Republicans from competitive districts have bristled at the Senate bill’s cuts to Medicaid, while conservatives have lambasted the legislation as straying from their fiscal goals. It falls to Speaker Mike Johnson and his team to convince them that the time for negotiations is over. The bill would extend and make permanent various individual and business tax breaks that Republicans passed in Trump’s first term, plus temporarily add new ones that Trump promised during the campaign, including allowing workers to deduct tips and overtime pay, and provide a new $6,000 deduction for most older adults. In all, the legislation contains about $4.5 trillion in tax cuts over 10 years. Trump praised the bill profusely in a social media post, saying “We can have all of this right now, but only if the House GOP UNITES, ignores its occasional ‘GRANDSTANDERS’ (You know who you are!), and does the right thing, which is sending this Bill to my desk.”
