Monika Hengesbach - Gen Z Inflation
Tuesday Jun 18, 2024
Tuesday Jun 18, 2024
Freshly minted college graduates are grappling with more than just trying to land their first jobs. There’s the cost of rent. And eating out with friends. And gasoline. And car insurance. Gen Z members (born between 1997 and 2012) have been hit harder by inflation than all other age groups, and the effects could cast a shadow over their financial health for years to come, according to studies by Moody’s Analytics and TransUnion, the credit reporting agency. Young adults, ages 12 to 27, are bearing the brunt of a historic spike in prices over the past few years that has financially strained most Americans. That's because Gen Z's incomes are lower because they’re just entering the workforce. And they’re big consumers of some of the chief inflation drivers, like housing and meals out, Colyar says. We chat with Monika and with more than 30 years of experience in financial services. She’s an enrolled agent, tax saving expert and CEO at Decision Financial Services

Janice Spooner - Stubborn Inflation

Stubborn inflation has been hitting Americans at every level: From grocery prices to those of housing, high costs have placed an enormous toll on consumers. Thus, it came as no surprise that the Federal Reserve chose to keep its rates steady following its Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting which concluded on May 1. In addition, it also left the door open as to when it would start cutting them. Earlier this year, Fed officials had indicated that they would implement three rate cuts. However, said officials have since been telegraphing that cuts will probably occur later than previously anticipated. The Fed seems to have now shifted to a “wait and see” approach due to both sticky inflation and strong economic data. Indeed, inflation, which was on a downward trajectory, has picked up its pace once again. Janice is an expert on lending and credit and is the Market President with Great Plains Bank Southlake

“Drunkorexia,” a portmanteau of the words “drunk” and “anorexia,” refers to a worrisome trend that combines alcohol abuse and disordered eating behaviors. Some researchers believe that it may represent a new eating disorder while others find that it cannot be solely classified as either an eating disorder or a substance abuse disorder but has elements of both. Research shows that behaviors associated with drunkorexia include fasting, binge drinking and getting drunk. Although not yet an official medical diagnosis, the term highlights a planned pattern of behavior where individuals restrict their food intake, engage in excessive exercise or in purging to “make room” or compensate for the high caloric content of alcohol they will consume. This behavior is particularly prevalent among college students and young adults. For instance, in a research sample of Australian female university students, over 79.1% of participants reported engaging in Drunkorexia behavior. We chat with Ervin a former addict who now leads a "Faith Based Recovery" program called From Beer to the Bible. He had a lucrative career climbing the ladder at Fortune 500 companies, but he was fighting a battle that no one knew of. His inner demons were slowly destroying him. Ervin had suffered from extreme alcoholism that put his business, marriage, and even his life at risk. He finally found sobriety by leaning into his faith.

Dr. Allan Lichtman says it's too early to tell if Trump's guilty verdict will affect 2024, but issues warning for Democrats. Former President Trump's criminal conviction in his historic New York trial may have thrown the 2024 presidential election into unprecedented upheaval – or it may not have, according to Dr. Allan Lichtman. The American University historian, who has correctly predicted the outcome of nine of the last 10 U.S. presidential elections, told Fox News Digital that instant analysis of Trump's conviction is meaningless as the country looks forward to Election Day. We chat with Jennifer a Former Chairwoman, Massachusetts Republican Party // Founder Pocketbook Project.
